don't be afraid to live
Most people fear death which is why they depend on an afterlife, the everlasting soul, that will live on for eternity, an idea that seems for some narcissistic and depressing. Those believers of afterlife then concentrate on teaching that will guarantee them the everlasting soul, a reward for following the teachings of, for example Christianity. Often they live a life of depravity and self loathing, which was taught by ancient thinkers who did not comprehend the world the same way it is understood now. They believed for instance catastrophes such as volcano outbreaks or flooding were a direct result of human action that was disagreeable to the gods.
As a result, believers miss out on what the short life of a human has to offer, most likely there is no afterlife and the best way to enjoy life is by getting over the fear of death and except it as a part of life. Then one should join the living, creating hopes and dreams and striving toward them, perhaps even leaving a legacy behind that will live on through generations as it has for those ancient thinkers, that we still refer to by name, who have created the afterlife and the everlasting soul and who therefore are living on, perhaps even to eternity (doubtfully though).
